It is with immense joy and pride that we announce the prestigious recognition obtained by our cooperative: Madre Terra has received the "Giorgio Phellas – oil tourism" merit award at the XXXIII edition of Ercole Olivario 2025.
The Ercole Olivario: the Oscar of Italian oil
The Ercole Olivario represents the most important national competition dedicated to promoting Italian olive oil excellence. Organised by Unioncamere Nazionale in collaboration with the Umbria Chamber of Commerce, this prestigious award is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry and the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy.

The awards ceremony was held in the evocative setting of the Sala dei Notari at Palazzo dei Priori in Perugia, once again confirming the importance of this recognition for the entire national olive oil sector.

The "Giorgio Phellas – oil tourism" award: a recognition with profound meaning
The merit award we received is dedicated to Giorgio Phellas and recognises excellence in the oil tourism sector. This recognition underlines the strategic importance of olive oil as a driver for enhancing and promoting quality oleotourism offerings, aimed at that segment of tourists which has been growing strongly in recent years.
As highlighted by Andrea Prete, president of Unioncamere nazionale, during the ceremony: "Olive oil can be a strategic driver for enhancing and promoting a dedicated quality offering (oleotourism)".

La Madre Terra: over 80 years of passion and tradition
This recognition crowns a love story for extra virgin olive oil that has been ongoing for over 80 years. Our cooperative, founded by Accursio Miraglia and now chaired by Roberto Butera, is passionately dedicated to cultivating Sicilian indigenous varieties: cerasuola, biancolilla and, to a lesser extent, nocellara del Belice.
The territory of Sciacca, with its Mediterranean climate and soils rich in history, offers ideal conditions for producing oils of excellence that tell the story of our land and our tradition
A recognition for the future
Receiving the "Giorgio Phellas – oil tourism" merit award at Ercole Olivario 2025 represents much more than a simple prize for us: it is the recognition of a daily commitment towards excellence and the enhancement of the Sicilian territory.
"This award spurs us on to continue our path of quality and innovation, always respecting the tradition that distinguishes us. It is a recognition that we share with all our members, collaborators and with the entire community of Sciacca that supports and inspires us every day" says Vincenzo Termine, the coop board member who had the honour of representing the Cooperative during the awards ceremony.

Looking towards the future of oleotourism
The awarding of this recognition confirms the growing importance of oleotourism as a form of experiential and quality tourism.
Sicily, with its millennial olive-growing traditions and breathtaking landscapes, represents an ideal destination for those wanting to discover the secrets of Mediterranean green gold.
We will continue to work to offer our visitors authentic experiences that allow them to discover not only the quality of our oils, but also the cultural and landscape richness of our territory.
A special thank
We would like to thank the organisers of Ercole Olivario for this prestigious recognition and all those who, with passion and dedication, contribute daily to the success of our cooperative.
This award is dedicated to all enthusiasts of quality extra virgin olive oil and to those who believe in the value of sustainable tourism and the enhancement of territorial excellence.
Quality is not a matter of chance, but the result of passion, tradition and dedication. We continue our journey towards excellence, bringing the authentic flavours of Sicily to the world
